I’m not the best person to talk about this, as I am not a professor or expert in this field. But, as an observer, I can give my comments. The reason I write this post is for the Islamic organizations in Malaysia to open their eyes, and see the example of the Muslims in the West.
As a Muslim, we have to keep up with the technology and shouldn’t be left behind. If Islam doesn’t support knowledge and technology, why the first word revealed by God to Prophet Muhammad is ‘Read’? Why in the history, we saw the advancement of technology by Muslim Moors in Spain? They were practicing, pious Muslims. Ever heard of Ibn Sina or Avecenna? Yes, he’s Muslim, alright.
Ok, back to the topic. Kudos to all the instructors of Al Maghrib Institute for having their own Facebook pages and twitter accounts. I’m one of the followers and so far, i think, this is one of the best way to get the young muslims’ attention. We are just like other young people – we are on Facebook, like 24-7! These sheikhs updated their status by putting some hadiths and their thoughts. I really benefited from their tweets and updates alot!. Here is an example from Sheikh Yasir Qadhi – http://twitter.com/YasirQadhi
“RT @YasirQadhi If you don’t try to wake up for Fajr, there is really no benefit in you waking up at all.”
I read this on Friday morning. I checked the Twitter and found this tweet by Sheikh Yasir Qadhi. It really gave me goosebump as I was so lazy to wake up for Fajr that morning. It kinda give me a slap on my face. Ya Allah, it really changes me, Alhamdulillah.
Imam Suhaib Webb also another great example. He linked his blog to his facebook page. So, whenever he updates his blog, I will get a notification on facebook. I’m not a frequent visitors to blogs and websites, but I’m on facebook almost all day. So, it’s very useful to me to get that updates from Imam Suhaib Webb, himself. With the advancement of phone technology, youths are checking their facebook all the time from their phones. Imam Suhaib Webb’s blog: http://www.suhaibwebb.com/blog
Ok, I don’t say all Islamic Organizations in Malaysia are backward. There is one I know that is up-to-date: Young Muslims Project. I got the informations about their events from their twitter and their facebook. Here is their twitter: http://twitter.com/YMPtweet. Kudos to YMP!
Good example to other Malaysian Islamic Organizations to attract young crowds.
